How Airport Hotels Can Stand Out as Meeting and Event Venues
By Jeff Hart General Manager, Los Angeles Airport Marriott | December 15, 2019
On a standard sales brochure for an airport hotel, convenience and ease of access are used as key elements to a property's value proposition. While providing quick and efficient access from a travel hub is certainly a clear and desirable benefit of hosting an event at an airport property, simply getting from Point A to Point B is not the whole story.
A meeting and event at an airport hotel is about so much more than proximity. Location may be the initial reason a customer comes through the doors, but what keeps them there and coming back, are the ways in which an airport hotel can deliver a unique experience and give a customer the ability to produce content that makes their event stand out.
From taking advantage of runway views, to serving international clientele with a diverse staff, bringing the destination to life through food and beverage, and even providing simple ways for attendees from across the country to cheer on their favorite sports team – an airport hotel can stand out and become not just the "easy" choice for an event, but the perfect choice.
Beyond just the ease of access and operational logistics, airport hotels can provide an exceptional venue to host an event and really stand out in the marketplace by placing extra attention to the details and implementing these key components.
Bring the Destination to Life
First and foremost, provide a sense of place that allows attendees to really experience the city, its character and unique flavors. Many airport hotels are not actually located within a city center or sometimes even near the main sites and tourist destinations. Rather than thinking of this as a disadvantage, a hotel should use this as an opportunity to really bring a destination to life and help attendees immerse themselves in the culture and dynamics of the event's host city. After all, travel is embedded in the heart and soul of an airport property, let this radiate throughout.
