Abu Dhabi Honoured at WTM

NOVEMBER 7, 2006. Abu Dhabi Emirate kicked off World Travel Market (WTM) by receiving the World Travel Awards for 'The World's New Destination.' Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority received the award on behald of the Emirate. "It's because of His Royal Highness' commitment to the tourism product and the hard work of the authorities in the Emirate," says president of the World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke. "Then there's the support of the Emirates Palace Hotel and Etihad Airways. Both are multiple award winners at this year's World Travel Awards."

Abu Dhabi is using WTM to position itself in the global tourism landscape as a leading tourist destination. The commitment to tourism has seen the ADTA open a representative office in London. Commenting on the importance of WTM, ADTA Marketing Manager Ali Ahmed Al Hosani said Abu Dhabi is seeking to cement its existing international networks and partnerships during the event. This is in addition to showcasing its latest tourism development projects. The exhibition, he said, will also provide an opportunity for us to gauge the latest trends in the industry as well as familiarizing ourselves with clientele inclinations.

On the participation of the private sector at the London WTM, Al Hosani said Abu Dhabi hotels and tourism companies will endeavour to captivate the attention of the European tourists through the many incentives in addition to other attractions such as , desert, beach or heritage tourism. Spearheaded by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), Abu Dhabi will stage an island-like pavilion comprising 140 stands stretching over an area of 403 sq.

The Abu Dhabi pavilion comprises five major stands for the industry heavyweights, namely the Abu Dhabi Airport Company, Abu Dhabi National Hotels Company, Dana Hotels and Resorts, Emirates Palace Hotel, Etihad airways in addition to 24 other names such as Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Alpha Tours, Crown Plaza, Desert Adventures etc.
