4TH IIPT African Conference on Peace Through Tourism Announced at World Travel Market
LONDON, UK, November 15, 2005. World Travel Market's 'World Stage' served as the setting for the announcement of the 4th IIPT African Conference on Peace through Tourism under the patronage of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The Conference, being organized by the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) in partnership with the Africa Travel Association (ATA), will be held in March 2007.
In making the announcement, IIPT Founder and President Louis D'Amore stated, "We are honoured to be hosted by the Government of Uganda for our 4th African Conference, a country which, under the leadership of President Museveni, has emerged as a model of modern Africa and a force for peace and stability in the Great Lakes Region."
The 4th IIPT African Conference builds on the foundations of previous African Conferences in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa (2001); Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (2003); and Lusaka, Zambia (2005). As well, it builds on three Global Summits on Peace through Tourism, Amman, Jordan (2000); Geneva (2003); and particularly the most recently held Summit in Pattaya, Thailand, this past month that resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the Africa Travel Association (ATA). Special efforts will be made to continue building an 'Asia - Africa Bridge of Tourism, Friendship and Solidarity' leading up to - and during the 4th IIPT African Conference through the implementation of the MOU.
Uganda Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry, Hon. Daudi Migereko said, "The 4th IIPT African Conference will provide Uganda the opportunity to establish further partnerships and strategic alliances in our continuing aim to reach new markets, develop new products, and enhance global awareness of Uganda's uniqueness as a destination in tandem with our recently launched promotional campaign 'Uganda - Gifted By Nature.'"
The Conference will bring together senior executives from both the public and private sectors of tourism as well as donor agencies and related sectors including economic development, culture, sports, wildlife and the environment.
In addition to featuring case studies of 'Success Stories' and 'Models of Best Practice,' Pre-Summit events will include three Forums: Educators Forum, Student/Youth Leadership Forum, and for the first time - a Traditional Leaders Forum. As well, the Pre-Conference Program will include half-day training workshops in selected topics.
Mira Berman, Africa Travel Association's Executive Director, said "The decision to host the 4th IIPT Africa Conference on Peace Through Tourism once again places Uganda in a leadership position in fostering sustainable tourism and regional collaboration. As a founding member of IIPT's Coalition of Partners for World Peace through Tourism, ATA is proud to again to be a partner in the Conference."
The Conference is being organized in support of the UN Decade for Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World and the UN Millennium Development Goals.
