Development Project with Hotels set for Boston Suburb

WESTWOOD, MA, December 1, 2005. Development giant Cabot, Cabot and Forbes yesterday unveiled ambitious plans to bring hotels shops, condos, and office space to University Ave. here in this Boston suburb. According to reports, CC&F President Jay Doherty, indicated the firm wants the development to be the nation's leading smart-growth project.

To accomplish that end, the primary owner of the town's 250-acre industrial park said it has acquired 135 acres for mixed-use development.

The project, called Westwood Station - it's proximity the commuter rail stop- has been in the works for a year. According to reports, at a recent local town meeting, voters changed the area's zoning to clear the way for the development.

Since then, a steering committee comprised of town board members and two consultants has been meeting with CC&F to hammer out a project that would satisfy all involved.

Westwood Station is slated to be the largest development in the town's history and could generate a significant amount of taxes, said officials. Doherty said his company has partnered with Commonfund Realty Inc. to acquire 135 acres of University Avenue's industrial park.

The 10-year project will be done in phases, said Doherty. He said he hopes to start developing as soon as the planning board can grant permission.
