Bucks County Visitor Center - 2007 Events
BUCKS COUNTY, PA, February 7, 2007. Artwork of students throughout Bucks County will be on display at the Bucks County Visitor Center, at 3207 Street Road, Bensalem, beginning April 14, 2007. The artwork will remain on display for the public to view until May 12, 2007. "Experiencing Bucks County-Through the Eyes of its Next Generation," the third annual art contest sponsored by the Bucks County Conference and Visitors Bureau, Inc. (BCCVB) and School Works! encouraged students to create works of art depicting the history and beauty of Bucks County.
The contest was broken up into three age groups: K-4, 5-8, and 9-12. Students had the choice of working with any two-dimensional medium, such as pencil, watercolor, oil, charcoal, etc., or with photography or sculpture. Their artwork portrayed the Bucks County countryside and landscape, historical events and sites as well as illustrations of people in Bucks County.
A new addition to the event this year is a literary contest for students to write essays, poems or short stories related to the Bucks County theme. Some sample topics included: Visiting Bucks County, preserving the county's history, heroic historical Bucks figures, and the contributions of the Lenape Indians.
This is the third year BCCVB and School Works!, a non-profit organization supported by the Lower Bucks Chamber of Commerce, has sponsored this contest. The BCCVB's goal for this art and literary contest is to recognize and reward the artistic achievements of students while promoting the beauty and wealth of history in Bucks County.
The BCCVB is also holding its third annual quilt showcase this summer. This year's theme is "Quilts For, About or By Kids." Quilts will go on display starting July 8, 2007 and the exhibit will run throughout the summer until September 7, 2007.
Another new addition to the events held at the Bucks County Visitor Center this year is the expansion of the genealogy seminar into a two-day ancestry fair. The event will take place from September 29 - 30, 2007. Festivities will include vendors set up in the main gallery of the Visitor Center, as well as individual speeches in the theater. Admission is free and door prizes will be given.
The Bucks County Visitor Center sponsors a number of promotional events held at the center throughout the year. These events aim to bring as many people as possible into the center, which allows them to experience and enjoy the center while receiving information about attractions and events throughout Bucks County.
