Discover America Partnership Applauds Voinovich Amendment
Strengthen U.S. Security, Expand Visa Waiver Program
FEBRUARY 14, 2007. The Discover America Partnership applauds Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) and co-sponsors to his amendment to S.4, the Improving America's Security by Implementing Unfinished Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007, for seeking to strengthen and expand the Visa Waiver Program. This amendment is consistent with one of the key proposals in the Partnership's recently released "Blueprint to Discover America" and demonstrates growing Congressional awareness of the critical role that international travel to the U.S. plays in America's economic security and public diplomacy efforts.
For too long, some Members of Congress have chosen to see travel and security as mutually exclusive. The Discover America Partnership, consisting of some of America's foremost business leaders, challenges Congress to embrace international travel to the U.S. and finally establish visa, entry and communication policies that put substance behind the mantra "Secure Borders, Open Doors." We are heartened by new legislative efforts to build a secure and welcoming environment for international travelers, including the development of an exit system and the gathering of enhanced biometric information.
