Artist in Residence Program Debuts at Intercontinental London Park Lane

. October 14, 2008

LONDON, UK, June 26, 2007. The newly reopened InterContinental London Park Lane celebrates London's vibrant art scene with the introduction of the new 'Insider Culture' package. Promoting emerging British artists, the hotel will debut a vibrant and exciting young painter, George Lewis, as the first in a series of artist package hosts - for the first-ever 'Artist in Residence' program.

Guests of the 'Insider Culture' package will start the day out with a visit to the Royal Academy of Arts, one of the hotel's special partnerships. From there, Lewis guides a tour of London through an artist's eye, discussing how to capture famous London landmarks on paper. Lewis will also teach guests at the hotel, using techniques learned from the day's excursion. Also included in the package is a limited edition, signed print of George's forthcoming work featuring The Wellington Arch and Quadriga, commissioned by the InterContinental London Park Lane.

Lewis, whose work won the Anges Reeve Memorial Award for the Best Painting of London last year, has exhibited widely in the UK, Europe, USA and Middle East. On becoming the first "artist in residence," he says: "Having traveled and painted all around the world, I still love coming back to London, which is one of the most dynamic and vibrant capitals of the international art world today. It is wonderful to be part of the city's energy and encouragement of the arts, such as the InterContinental London Park Lane's artist in residence program."

Lewis begins his stint at the hotel this month, and will be on hand for five weeks. In addition to providing the 'Insider Culture' package, he will be producing new artwork on the premises from the Club InterContinental, and several previous pieces of his work will be on display.

Says General Manager Roland Fasel: "We've commissioned George to tell a story about the energy of London life as well as the hotel and its surroundings. We are pleased to have him working with us as part of our aspiration to be 'in the know', meaning that through everything we do, we share with guests what makes the local culture where they are staying unique. In the world of art, we've are the only hotel to partner with the Royal Academy to provide guests complementary access. By having George on board, we step that up even further to ensure our guests a more personalized experience of London's amazing art scene."

The Insider Culture package starts at approximately $600 for up to two persons. In addition to the tour and lessons with George Lewis, the limited edition signed copy of "The Wellington Arch and Quadriga,"guests will receive complimentary access to the Club InterContinental during their stay.
