NTA Promotes Travel to Spur Economy
Group Encourages Americans to Use Government Rebate to Travel
LEXINGTON, KY, February 13, 2008. In response to President Bush signing the economic stimulus package, which gives Americans a rebate of $600 to $1,200, the National Tour Association (NTA)is encouraging Americans to put the money toward travel.
"As the second largest employer in the United States, travel will help spread economic gains to our country's exceptional destinations." said NTA Chairman and CEO Bob Hoelscher. "By using the rebate to take a weekend trip or a longer vacation, Americans can do their part to stimulate the economy at U.S. hotels, restaurants and attractions. Not only that, but they also will have an enjoyable travel experience while taking in the great sights this country has to offer."
From wine tasting in California to volunteering at a national park, there are plenty of dynamic ways Americans can spend their rebate, set to arrive this spring.
"NTA tour operators can arrange vacations of all shapes and sizes and they can do so in a very time-efficient way, which means a lot to today's travelers," said Hoelscher. "Tour operators provide the complete travel package including transportation accommodations, meals, sightseeing, admission to attractions and a professional escort if desired - all for one price. And travel packages aren't just for groups. NTA tour operators will arrange a vacation for the independent traveler as well."
In 2006, domestic and international travelers spent $700 billion in the U.S, according to the Travel Industry Association. This generated 7.5 million jobs, $178.1 billion in payroll income and $109.9 billion in tax revenues for federal, state and local governments.
The National Tour Association is a trade organization for thousands of tourism professionals involved in the growth and development of the packaged travel industry. NTA members represent the most reliable and creative in the industry, with companies spanning 33 countries. Additionally, NTA's Government Affairs works closely with Congress and the Administration to create a more positive travel experience for travelers around the globe.
