Laurence Agnew Joins Capella Castlemartyr as Executive Chef

COUNTY CORK, Ireland, June 12, 2007. Laurence Agnew has been named Executive Chef at Capella Castlemartyr, set to open in County Cork, Ireland in August 2007. In his position, Agnew is responsible for menu concept and development and for all culinary offerings of the resort's fine dining rooms and Spa Caf'e. He will oversee a staff of 24.

The cuisine prepared by Chef Agnew will incorporate fresh ingredients from the estate's herb garden, local farmer's markets and those grown exclusively for Capella Castlemartyr by the region's finest purveyors. Breakfast will be served in the estate's sun-filled Garden Room and Terrace and Bell Tower, the main dining room, will serve modern Irish cuisine for up to 60 people at lunch and dinner. Bell Tower can also be broken out into three distinct areas for more intimate parties of 10, 15 and 20.

Agnew is a renowned chef whose culinary experience includes positions at prestigious hotels and restaurants. He worked at the celebrated L'Auberge de Sedona resort where he served as Chef de Cuisine. Prior to that, he worked as Sous Chef at Victor's Restaurant at the famed Ritz-Carlton New Orleans.

Agnew has been recognized by numerous publications including Sedona Magazine where he was listed as one of "Sedona's Finest Chefs" in 2006. He also worked side-by-side with renowned New Orleans chef John Besh at Restaurant August, where he held the position of Sous Chef.

Agnew received certification as a Chef de Cuisine from the Louisiana Culinary & Hotellerie Institute International in Jackson, LA. He now resides in County Cork, Ireland.

Capella Castlemartyr marks the debut of the Capella Hotels and Resorts brand in Ireland. Located in the eastern County Cork village of Castlemartyr, the resort is comprised of 103 spacious suites, 11 of which are located in a grand, fully restored 17th Century manor house adjacent to the ruins of a castle once home to the Knights Templar and Third Earl of Cork.
