JANUARY 26, 2009 - The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) will host a Webinar, 'Leveraging Green to Become Stronger and More Cost-Efficient', Wednesday, February 18, guiding hoteliers on how to effectively integrate sustainability initiatives into economically-efficient business decisions. The Webinar will provide tangible strategies to reduce operating costs and devise long-term management plans based on AH&LA's new 11 minimum environmental guidelines, and offer attendees personalized advice to their unique questions.

Moderator Pat Maher, formerly with Marriott International and currently AH&LA's green consultant, will lead the group of expert panelists and members of AH&LA's Green Task Force, including:

---|Carmen Baker, vice president, responsible business, Carlson Hotels Worldwide,

---|Jeff Slye, consultant, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, and

---|Ron Pohl, vice president, brand management & member services, Best Western International.

Created by AH&LA's Green Task Force, the AH&LA environmental guidelines are approximately 70 suggestions targeting effective energy, water, and waste management, and are based on the criteria of more than a dozen existing state and national certifications. Each of the minimum guidelines includes case studies, business cases, and resources for general managers to implement.

In addition to identifying the most important environmental pillars for hoteliers, panelists will discuss how hoteliers can track ongoing progress made in their own operations against the pillars in terms of benchmarks and baseline numbers.
