JalPak Contributes to Guam Museum Foundation
TUMON, Guam, February 9, 2009 - During a recent visit to Japan, Vice Speaker Benjamin J.F. Cruz and General Manager Gerald S.A. Perez were advised of a sizeable contribution to be made to the Guam Museum Foundation by JalPak. The announcement was made by JalPak President and CEO, Mr. Tetsuo Takahashi, who recently visited Guam for the first time.
The Vice Speaker and General Manager were in Japan to meet with representatives from the travel industry and city officials in Izu City. The pair met with top level representatives from the Japan Travel Bureau (JTB Corporation), the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), and JalPak. It was during discussions with JalPak that Mr. Takahashi announced their intent to donate to the Guam Museum Foundation.
According to Takahashi, the donation is to assist Guam in creating additional attractions for potential travelers from the country that currently represents 75% of Guam's total visitor arrivals. The Guam Museum Foundation is vigorously raising funds to build the new museum that will provide safe, exhibition space for cultural and historical artifacts while creating a new attraction for visitors interested in a more in-depth experience of Guam.
Mr. Takahashi said he became captivated by the Guam's natural beauty and appeal as a world-class destination. Takahashi also announced that JalPak will be donating coral buds to increase the number and size of corals found on Guam's reefs. The coral bud donation is part of JapPak's 45th anniversary celebration.
The monetary donation to the Guam Museum Foundation and of coral buds by JalPak indicates the company's commitment to assisting in the development of Guam as a viable tourism destination in Japan. "These wonderful contributions JalPak is making to Guam are representative of the importance of maintaining and developing key relationships with industry leaders in Japan and our other overseas markets," said Perez, "We are very grateful to JalPak and Takahashi-san for their support of our island."
The trip to Japan also marked the Vice Speaker's first official trip on behalf of Guam, since his appointment as Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, Cultural Affairs, Youth and Public Broadcasting.
