Goodstone Names Sheree McDowell Pastry Chef

FEBRUARY 10, 2009 - Goodstone Inn & Estate has named Sheree McDowell Pastry Chef for the historic and rustically elegant property, located outside Middleburg. Goodstone is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World Collection. Simon Smith, General Manager, made the announcement.

"I am so pleased to welcome Sheree to Goodstone Inn," said Mr. Smith. "She brings excellent credentials to her new role, having worked with prestigious Five Star properties for much of her career. Her immense talents will beautifully complement the superb culinary team we've assembled."

Ms. McDowell previously held the position of Pastry Chef at the Five Star, Five Diamond Woodlands Resort & Inn in Summerville, South Carolina, a Relais Gourmand property. She served in the same position for Port Bakery in Kennebunkport, Maine.

As Chef de Partie for The Inn at Little Washington, the Relais Gourmand property in Washington, Virginia, Ms. McDowell was presented the unique opportunity to assist in the creation of a celebratory dessert for the revered Julia Child, on the occasion of her 90th birthday. It was also the Inn's 25th anniversary.

Earlier in her career, Sheree McDowell served as Assistant Pastry Chef at Porcini of Louisville, Kentucky, where she became expert in the creation of Italian pastries and desserts. She launched her hospitality career at The Columbine Bed and Breakfast of Louisville, serving as Assistant Innkeeper and gaining important operational experience.

Sheree McDowell is an honors graduate of Sullivan University of Louisville, Kentucky, where she received a degree in baking and the pastry arts. She is relocating to the Middleburg area.
