John Svensson Named Director of Catering and Convention Services at Cornell's Statler Hotel
ITHACA, NY, October 20, 2005. John Svensson has been appointed Director of Catering and Convention Services at Cornell University's Statler Hotel & J. Willard Marriott Executive Education Center. In this new position Svensson will take charge of the catering and convention markets for the 150-room property, which operates three restaurants including the award-winning Ristorante Banfi.
Svensson joins the hotel with a proven record leading catering operations for Hyatt Hotels, Artistic Events, and Starwood Hotels. His career includes 27 years with Hyatt, where he oversaw catering operations in Chicago, Dallas, Monterey and Washington. Most recently, he served as director of catering and convention services for Starwood in Chicago.
"John is an excellent addition to the Statler team. Over his long and distinguished career, he has demonstrated the ability to build and effectively manage large-scale catering operations," said Rick Adie '75, general manager of The Statler Hotel.
Svensson also will share his sales and catering expertise with the 200 Hotel School students who work in the hotel. In particular, he will work with a select group of students who participate in the Hotel's Statler Leadership Development Program, designed to give high-performing students experience in hotel management.
A native of Corning, N.Y., Svensson graduated from the Cornell Hotel School in 1973 and has a Diplome d'Etudes Culinaires from La Varenne Ecole de Cuisine in Paris.
