Thailand's First Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa Invites You to Enter the 'Realm of the Lotus'

. October 14, 2008

BANGKOK, November 11, 2005. Thailand's first wellness sanctuary and holistic spa celebrates its opening this week (11 Nov) with a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony. A unique concept in personal wellbeing, relaxation and inner health, Kamalaya will further reinforce Koh Samui's reputation as the world's leading island destination for spa and wellness holidays.

Centred on a cave temple that once served Buddhist monks as a place of meditative retreat, Kamalaya translates from the Sanskrit as 'Realm of the Lotus', and has been designed as the ultimate holistic spa and sanctuary.

Internationally renowned experts on personal health and wellness will reinforce Kamalaya's reputation with a series of educational events. Beginning in December, Ray Madigan and Shelley Choy, co-founders of Manoa Yoga Centre, will hold a workshop focussing on the practice of yoga asanas and pranayamas.

For those who have overdone the Festive Season spirit and want to start the New Year by turning over a new leaf, January also offers food for thought:

  • "Messages from Water", by Dr. Masaru Emoto, will discuss the unique properties of water and its ability to improve our health and life.

  • "The Essence of Buddhist Meditation", by Pra Arjan Po will outline the legacy of great masters who lived in the cave at Kamalaya and teach the essence of Buddhist meditation.

All guests have free access to the Holistic Wellness Sanctuary, where experienced practitioners in western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and naturopathy, as well as in the fields of Yoga, gi gong and related disciplines will offer a wide variety of health treatments, consultations, classes and seminars.

In fact, every guest is offered an initial wellness consultation, as well as a pre-departure follow-up session. During their stay, guests can enjoy complimentary use of the steam cavern, swimming and plunge pools, as well as participate in introductory Yoga, meditation, tai chi, gi gong and other exercise classes.

Importantly, Kamalaya's accommodation rates also include breakfast, lunch, dinner or individualised Detox and Rejuvenation meal plans at the Soma Restaurant. Consisting of just 60 villas, bungalows, suites and hillside rooms, and situated on 10 acres of south-facing beachfront property, Kamalaya promises expansive views of sky, sea, hills and outlying islands.

General Manager Neil Taylor said Kamalaya would take spa resorts to an entirely new level, offering a comprehensive range of Western and Oriental treatments and therapies, as well as an inspiring natural environment. "Kamalaya will unfold as a sanctuary of inspiring beauty and tranquillity in which to discover life's full potential."

Its villas, bungalows, suites and hillside accommodation have been carefully designed to also make the most of the surrounding landscape, while their peaceful interiors combine natural materials, Asian textiles, and carefully selected art and antiques. Guests also benefit from complimentary airport transfers when booking directly with Kamalaya.

Kamalaya is offering special launch rates for the first four months after opening. Prices begin at 5,700 Thai Baht per night for single occupancy in a hillside room; 16,800 Thai Baht per night for double occupancy of a spacious Beach Pool Villa; and 41,400 Thai Baht for the four-person Rock-Top Villa. More information and bookings can be made directly through Kamalaya's web site - www.kamalaya.com
