IH/M&RS Gold Key Awards Honor Leaders in Hospitality Design
Starwood Design Group recognized as 'Designer of the Year'
NEW YORK, NY, November 14, 2005. Winners of the 25th annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show(R) (IH/M&RS) Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design were announced on November 14, 2005, at New York City's Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Sponsoring organizations Interior Design and HOTELS magazines presented eight grand prize awards to design firms and properties from around the world, as well as one "Designer of the Year" Award.
The 2005 IH/M&RS Gold Key Grand Prize Winners are:
Lobby/Reception Area - Studio Gaia (New York, NY) for W Seoul Walkerhill (Seoul, South Korea)
Restaurants: Casual Dining - Yabu Pushelberg (New York, NY) for Shibuya (Las Vegas, NV)
Spa - Richardson Sadeki (New York, NY) for BATHHOUSE (Las Vegas, NV)
Suite - W Design (New York, NY) for Suites, W Montreal (Quebec, Canada)
Restaurants: Fine Dining - Bentel & Bentel Architects/Planner (Locust Valley, NY) for The Modern (New York, NY)
Lounge/Bar - Studio Gaia (New York, NY) for Woo Bar, W Seoul Walkerhill (Seoul, South Korea)
Guest Room - Studio Gaia (New York, NY) for W Seoul Walkerhill (Seoul, South Korea)
Best Hotel Design - Richmond International (London, England) for Four Seasons Gresham Palace Budapest (Budapest, Hungary)
The second annual "Designer of the Year" Award was presented to Starwood Design
Group, the design firm responsible for St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, Westin, and W Design. Starwood Design Group received this recognition for its leadership and vision in hospitality design.
During the breakfast, the Network of Executive Women in Hospitality (NEWH) General Scholarship Fund was presented with a check for $5,000 to assist students pursuing careers in the hospitality industry. Since 1984, NEWH has awarded more than 1.4 million dollars to 841 students.
Judges for the 2005 Gold Key Awards were Karen Daroff, Daroff Design; David Ling, David Ling Architect; DiRoNA member Jo-Ann Makovitzky, Tocqueville Restaurant; and Rudy Tauscher, Mandarin Oriental, New York. Judges selected finalists based on design creativity, aesthetic value and commercial viability.
The 90th annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show runs Saturday, November 12, through Tuesday, November 15, at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Following a full day of conference and networking activities on Saturday, November 13, the IH/M&RS features three days of exhibits from Sunday, November 13, through Tuesday, November 15. The market presents approximately 1,400 hospitality industry suppliers and attracts 35,000 in total trade attendance.
