. October 14, 2008

GERMANY, December 16, 2005. Prices for rooms in cities hosting World Cup 2006 matches have risen dramatically as hotels gear up for football fever, according to research from the world's favourite online hotels expert, Hotels.com (www.hotels.com).

Numbers of bookings for June 2006 have trebled compared to the seasonal average. While price rises vary from city to city, costs of 3 star hotels have gone up by up to 134% during the World Cup, while 4 star hotels have raised their prices by up to 71%.

The highest rise is for 2 star hotels in Hamburg, which have trebled during the World Cup compared to average rates (209% average rise). Prices for 3 stars in Frankfurt have more than doubled (134% rise). Other rises include a 38.5% rise in Cologne and rises of up 55% in Berlin.

City Average % price rise for World Cup period

Cologne +38.5%

Berlin +55%

Hamburg +127%

Frankfurt +134%

Alison Couper, spokesperson for Hotels.com comments: "Given the huge increases in demand for rooms, hotels are benefiting from the influx of fans. However, there are plenty of rooms still available, so those hoping to head to Germany for some of the World Cup action should make sure they visit www.hotels.com to get the best rates.

"Based on past experience, we are likely to see a surge in demand for rooms as tickets are allocated for the group matches following the draw. However, it is also likely that prices will fall back nearer to the event and that hotels will seek to fill capacity with lower prices as June draws near.

"www.hotels.com's price guarantee - that you won't find the same room for less with anyone else - at least means that visitors' off-pitch experiences will be good, regardless of how their team is performing."
