WEST POINT, NY, February 21, 2006. The historic Thayer Hotel at West Point has recently awarded Victor Fernandez of Highland Falls as its "Employee of the Year." Mr. Fernandez has worked with the Thayer as a chef for the past 13 years. Born Santiago in Santa Domingo, Mr. Fernandez is a graduate of Juan Pablo High School, Dwarte Technical School, and the Le Chef Academy in Texas. He enjoys experimenting with different cuisines, blending flavors and creating new, exciting dishes. A baseball fan, he also is the father of five children.

"We want to sincerely thank Victor for his continued excellent work for the Thayer Hotel," said General Manager Bob Wilson. "We look forward to more years of enjoying his creative cooking skills."

Built in 1926, the Thayer Hotel is designated as a Historic Hotel of America and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the only full-service hotel on the Hudson River from the George Washington Bridge to Albany, New York.

Originally constructed to accommodate U.S. Military Academy personnel and their guests, the Thayer Hotel was a successor of the original West Point Hotel. The Hotel is named for Colonel Sylvanus Thayer, Superintendent of the Academy from 1817 to 1833.
