Abu Dhabi Has Big Presence at ITB
BERLIN, Germany, March 06, 2006. Abu Dhabi will have an impressive 306 square metres pavilion at the ITB show that will start on Wednesday (March 8).
Participating in the show from Abu Dhabi are 64 exhibitors representing hotels and tour operators. "Our participation at ITB Berlin this year is different from previous years. In the past, we used to just attempt to introduce Abu Dhabi and its tourist attractions, in a bid to attract European tour operators. This year, our aim is to have a share of the tourists' market and position Abu Dhabi as a prime destination for tourists in Germany and the rest of Europe," said HE Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA).
He said ADTA would also seek to attract tour operators from other parts of the world. These tour operators, he added, are keen on taking part in this major meeting place for the tourism industry.
"We will definitely make our presence felt in Berlin. Efforts will be exerted to promote Abu Dhabi in a way that tallies with its regional and international importance. Abu Dhabi last year hosted large numbers of tourists from all over the world, particularly from Europe, and our products have been exemplary," Sheikh Sultan said.
Recent figures released by ADTA show that further growth in tourist numbers will take place in the future. In 2005, there was growth in tourist traffic between German cities and Abu Dhabi. Travellers between Abu Dhabi and German totalled some 95,000 people, and there were 194,000 German tourists who took hotel accommodation in Abu Dhabi.
"German tourist numbers are expected to grow in the next few years. Tourism officials in Germany and Abu Dhabi are keen on making advancements in the tourism sector. This is evident in the many German functions held in Abu Dhabi, and the occasions in which Abu Dhabi participates in Germany," said the ADTA chairman.
