Mandarin Oriental to Debut in Chicago
CHICAGO, IL, March 21, 2006. If Millennium Park is Chicago's crowning glory, Chicago can anticipate another jewel for her crown. That became apparent today when plans were announced for a spectacular new condominium hotel to be built adjacent to the city's world-famous cultural destination. On schedule for completion in the spring of 2009, the 65-story glass and steel high-rise will be called, officially, Mandarin Oriental Tower, Chicago. But a fortunate few will prefer to call it "home".
"Location, location, location," said Gerard Kenny, a partner at Palladian Development, the Chicago-based private partnership behind the project. "Residents will enjoy a spectacular city, a vibrant neighborhood, and an investment managed by the most respected hotel operator in the world."
The prestigious Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, known for its distinctive properties and gracious service, operates or has under development 14 luxury hotels and resorts in Asia, 4 in Europe, and 12 in The Americas.
From the bottom up, Chicago's soaring structure will include 250 guestrooms and suites at Mandarin Oriental, Chicago; 100 residences at Mandarin Oriental Tower, Chicago; and 150 Mandarin Oriental Tower Condominiums. All 500 units will be offered for sale, from $500,000 to considerably more than $10 million.
A key link in Chicago's vast underground pedway system, the mixed-use site at 215 N. Michigan Ave. will also feature high-tech business and conference facilities, two ballrooms, two restaurants, boutique shops, valet parking, and a 40,000-square-foot health club and spa.
"Mandarin Oriental spas combine a respect for Asian holistic healing therapies with modern Western technologies," said Mr. Kenny. "They're famous the world over, and if you don't believe me, ask your wife."
The new building, likely to take its place as another icon in The City of Architecture, was designed by the local firm of Solomon Cordwell Buenz. The interior design team was led by Todd-Avery Lenahan.
The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Chicago, on floors 32 through 45, start at 1,600-square-feet and include a full kitchen. Residents will be treated as full-time hotel guests. Above, in the Tower Condominiums, owners will receive their own dedicated concierge service, valet parking, custom interior design, and access to the hotel's spa and restaurants.
Mr. Kenny confessed that Palladian had an emotional commitment, as well as an economic interest, in developing the property. "Millennium Park wasn't just the most significant Millennium project in the world," he said. "It created a new downtown. One that deserves a grand hotel with the grace and hospitality only Mandarin Oriental can provide."
