EUROPEAN UNION, June 27, 2005. The popular destinations of Boulogne-sur-Mer and Cote d'Opale region will be hosting an extensive list of special events throughout summer 2005, including food festivals, musical concerts, cultural celebrations and heritage days.

From 1 to 24 July the region will play host to the Cote d'Opale Music Festival with swing, jazz and world music concerts at venues throughout the region.

A Celebration of the Sea festival takes place along Boulogne's seafront Quai Gambetta from 21 to 24 July, with traditional boats, visits from old sailing craft, demonstrations of old maritime skills, seafood tastings, boat trips, traditional folk music and dances, concerts and exhibitions.

Other summer highlights include the Wimereux Mussels Festival from 23 to 24 July, Hardelot International Music Festival from 25 July to 15 August, July 29-31, 1,5,7,8 August Les Miserables Son et Lumiere in Montreuil, and Grande Procession Notre-Dame in Boulogne on 27 and 28 August.

Boosted by the successful return of a direct passenger ferry link between Dover and Boulogne last year, the port and town of Boulogne has re-emerged as the favourite cross channel destination for many British visitors.

The Port of Boulogne, located just 200 metres from the town centre of Boulogne-sur-Mer, provides unique access to all shops, restaurants and tourist attractions, and is the perfect arrival point for visiting the region's charming towns and resorts such as Wimereux, Hardelot, Desvres, Montreuil-sur-Mer, Etaples and Le Touquet.
