Tourists Bring Record $359 mil Into Brazil
SAO PAOLO, Brazil, March 23, 2006. Overseas tourists brought $359 million into Brazil in February, the best figure for the month ever recorded, according to the Brazilian Travel Authority (Embratur).
The announcement is based on Brazilian Central Bank figures. The February result was also the third best for any month ever recorded, behind the $360 million of December 2005 and the $402 million of January 2006.
Embratur pointed out that the revenues brought into Brazil by foreign tourists in February were 9.79% higher than the $327 million of the same month last year.
The figure accumulated over January and February is $762 million, up 14.07% on the $667 million of the same period last year.
The February figures also brought a $76 million deficit, as Brazilian tourists spent $435 million abroad. The Jan-Feb deficit is $71 million.
