AH&LA Applauds White House's Latest Stance on Immigration Reform
WASHINGTON, DC, April 05, 2006. - Following its Statement of Administration Policy on the ongoing comprehensive immigration reform issue that's being debated in Washington, the White House was lauded by the American Hotel & Lodging Association for pushing for reform.
In that statement of administration policy, the White House made its stance known on efforts to improve Senator Bill Frist's immigration reform bill and legislation crafted by the Senate Judiciary Committee. The statement outlined specific elements of immigration reform that the Bush Administration believes must be incorporated into final legislation.
Subsequent to the Bush Administration's statement, the AH&LA has pointed out several items in the statement that it agrees should be included in any immigration reform legislation that's passed by Congress. Such items include provisions that raise the annual statutory limits on legal immigrants; an employment eligibility verification system in a manner that is not overly burdensome for American employers; and provisions that give employers the tools they need to verify work eligibility quickly and accurately and provide a safe harbor for those employers who in good faith comply with the law.
