Travel Turkey 2006 Welcomed Tourism Professionals

ISTANBUL, Turkey, May 30, 2006. The Turkish Minister of Tourism and Culture Mr. Atilla Koc opened Travel Turkey 2006 with a positive outlook for the Turkish tourism industry. Travel Turkey 2006 has closed its doors with numbers above expectations regarding exhibitors, visitors and covered exhibition space. Travel Turkey 2006 organized through a collaboration of Hannover-Messe International Istanbul and T"URSAB, the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies hosted 180 exhibitors. The fair and conference welcomed more than 7.200 trade visitors as well as a significant number of end-consumers from 23 countries. Thus, the number of exhibitors, visitors and space was brought to nearly twice that of the event in 2004.
Among the exhibitors were major Turkish travel agencies, like ETS, Pronto Tour, Jolly Tour, Anitur, Iremtur as well as twelve touristic regions of Turkey and the Istanbul Convention and Visitors Bureau (ICVB) who was accompanied by hotels, such as Princess, Dedeman and Grand Cevahir. Alongside, representatives from various countries, among them Brazil, Cuba, Greece, Korea, Malaysia, Syria and Tunis showcased at Travel Turkey 2006. The exhibitors have especially expressed their satisfaction with the quality of international travel experts.
More than 100 international buyers and 90 representatives of the travel trade press attended the fair and the conference. Sushil Wadhwa, Platinum Incentives & Events, a hosted buyer from the MICE-sector in India stated: "I was able to meet prospective sellers and service providers whom we will be using in the near future for our groups to Turkey. Turkey has immense potential in the Indian Market and Travel Turkey is a very positive step in tapping that market. The cultures of Turkey and India are very similar and this will only help more business in FIT & MICE into Turkey. Thanks to Hannover Messe, T"URSAB and ICVB for putting together a good effort and I am sure this will only grow every year"
A great interest was shown to the 2 days accompanying international conference during that more than 20 nationally and internationally renowned speakers shared their perspectives and views on the future developments of Turkish tourism with the audience. Among the speakers were the Pakistan Tourism Minister Mrs. Nilofar Bakhtiar, T"URSAB Vice President Riza Epikmen, Ridvan Edebal - Senior Consultant of "Oger Tours, Frank Riecke - Managing Director from NAZAR and the Director General for Promotion from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism "Ozg"ur "Ozaslan. A panel discussion organized by Touristik R.E.P.O.R.T and workshop from the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board held alongside attracted an interested audience.
Travel Turkey 2006 was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and supported by major associations and organizations such as the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Association of Turkish Private Aviation Enterprises Association (T"OSH'YD), Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) and Istanbul Convention & Visitor Bureau (ICVB).
