Rezidor Announces the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Moscow
AUGUST 19, 2009 - The Rezidor Hotel Group, the Brussels-based hotel management company, announces the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Moscow. A famed city landmark, the former Hotel Ukraina is currently under extensive renovation and scheduled to open December 2009.
"This hotel is another milestone in our history," remarked Kurt Ritter, President & CEO of Rezidor. "Rezidor, the international pioneer on the Russian hotel market, is today the leading international hotel operator in Russia and the CIS countries - and now manages an additional key property in Moscow, which is one of the most remarkable hotel structures in Europe."
Interiors Combine Modern Amenities with Original Architecture and Soviet-Era Art Collection The Radisson Blu Royal Moscow will offer 507 guestrooms and 38 serviced apartments with kitchenettes. Guestrooms average approximately 345 square feet, and suites range from 540 to 2750 square feet. All room types offer complimentary high speed internet access.
The hotel will feature a unique art collection of nearly 1,000 original socialist realism paintings, the "official" artistic movement of the Soviet Union for nearly 60 years. Restored murals and ceiling frescoes throughout hotel public areas compliment the collection and retain the feel of the original Hotel Ukraina.
Culinary Boat Tours, Cocktails with Panoramic Views and 43,000 Ft2 of Spa and Wellness Culinary highlights at the Radisson Blu Royal Moscow will include four restaurants, one developed by leading Russian restaurateur Arkady Novikov. The hotel will also offer culinary boat trips into the heart of Moscow through a partnership with five river cruise liners, featuring restaurants designed exclusively for the hotel.
Additional hotel amenities include a luxury retail gallery, nine meeting and function rooms, and a 43,000-square-foot spa and wellness center offering a Turkish bath, Finnish sauna, six-lane swimming pool and a dedicated kids' club. A trendy bar located on the hotel's 31st floor will provide breath-taking city views.
Historic "Seven Sisters" Structure in the Heart of Moscow
The hotel structure was an original part of the "Seven Sisters," a historic development in 1950s Moscow. Combining neo-classical, Gothic and Russian Baroque architecture with the technology used to build Manhattan skyscrapers, the 34-story building was the largest hotel of its day at over 675 feet high, including a 240-foot spire. The property was the work of 2,000 architects, engineers and artisans, and was patronized by the most renowned citizens and guests of the Soviet Union.
Located in the city center, the Radisson Blu Royal Moscow is situated on the banks of the Moskva River at the intersection of prestigious commercial stretches Kutuzovsky Prospect and Novy Arbat. Attractions within walking distance include the Russian Federation-- or Russian "White House"-- as well as Red Square, the Kremlin, and the House of Government. Moscow's international airports are easily accessible; the main railway terminal to Vnukovo Airport is steps from the hotel.
The Radisson Blu Royal Moscow will join a strong Rezidor portfolio in the region. Rezidor currently has 40 properties open or under development in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Existing Radisson Blu properties in Russia include the Radisson Blu Royal St. Petersburg and the Radisson Blu Lazurnaya, Sochi on the Black Sea coast.
