. September 13, 2009

VIRGINIA, MN, September 19, 2009 - The AmericInn Lodge & Suites in Virginia/Mountain Iron is hosting the 5th annual Iron Range Housekeeping Olympics on Monday, Sept. 14, at 11:00 a.m. Housekeeping teams from lodging properties across the Iron Range will participate in such events as laundry folding, bed making and a popular obstacle course race.

Jim Makowsky, general manager of the AmericInn Lodge & Suites, is thrilled to play host once again to the Iron Range Housekeeping Olympics in honor of International Housekeepers Week.

"It's becoming an annual tradition where business competitors are able to showcase their exceptional housekeeping skills," said Makowsky. "It has really become an opportunity for establishing friendships among employees of different hotels and businesses across the area."

The Housekeeping Olympics will begin with a parade of competitors followed by an official opening ceremonies and the games, complete with a presentation of the flag by the American Legion Color Guard. The games include timed events in bed making and laundry folding. The obstacle course event is the grand finale. In this particular race, each team winds through a course with a maids cart having to zig-zag through a maze of cones; quickly scrub toilets and shower stalls; make beds and then race to the finish line. The games are concluded by a presentation of awards. The co-masters of ceremonies this year will be Shannon Gunderson and Jim Currie, president and CEO of the Laurentian Chamber of Commerce.

The Olympics are held in conjunction with International Housekeepers Week. "The Housekeeping Olympics are a fun way to show recognition to the housekeepers of our industry for a job that often goes unrecognized," said Makowsky.
