Cornell GM Program Scholarship Announced
ITHACA, NY, October 12, 2009 - The Cornell School of Hotel Administration is pleased to announce a new scholarship for its General Managers Program (GMP). Three scholarships worth $3,000 each will be awarded to applicants to attend the January 2010 GMP in Ithaca, NY. The scholarships are being offered to hotel general managers and their next-in-command who have a desire to advance their professional and personal objectives and who have demonstrated a commitment to the hospitality industry.
Scholarships for the GMP have been available previously through industry organizations and Cornell Hotel Society chapters, but this is the first time the school has sponsored a scholarship of this type.
"Many of our participants contribute their own funds or come from independent properties that do not have large training budgets to invest in this type of program," comments Tom Kline, executive director of the Office of Executive Education at the School of Hotel Administration. "Due to the current state of the industry, this is precisely the time that organizations and individuals should be investing in their leaders. Our hope is that this scholarship will help a few more individuals participate in this learning experience."
Cornell's GMP is a 10-day experience for hotel general managers to share challenges, ideas, and proven solutions while forming a personal global network of support and friendship. Participants in the program interact closely with other hospitality professionals from around the world while being led by Cornell faculty members. They discuss leadership, strategic management, human-resources, hotel asset management, innovation, operations, and marketing management.
GMP's intensive learning environment, away from day-to-day management responsibilities, provides participants an opportunity for a fresh perspective. They discuss the latest trends and management challenges with expert faculty and their international peers, develop new ideas, and discover renewed enthusiasm for their work. They leave Cornell ready to take themselves and their property to a level of success beyond what they had previously imagined.
Scholarship applicants must be accepted into the January 2010 GMP before completing the scholarship application, which includes two essay questions. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is Friday, October 30, 2009. Applications can be sent electronically, via fax, or via postal mail. The application and full details can be found online at www.hotelschool.cornell.edu/execed/gmpscholarship.
