JANUARY 18, 2007. Considered to be China's Hawaii with year round temperatures above 22 degrees centigrade, Sanya is set to see a tourist boom in 2007. The tropical island has seen significant tourism growth over the past year with the introduction of new flights, including Airtours from the UK. The Kempinski is the only resort on the beach of Sanya Bay and the first of several five star hotels to open on the island this year.

The hotel has opened with a special introductory offer of GBP80 per room per night including breakfast and taxes. The offer is available until the end of March.

The Kempinski Resort and Spa is built on 2.5km of land along a private sandy beach, ten minutes from Sanya Phoenix International Airport and fifteen minutes from Sanya city centre. The hotel has 408 rooms, including one presidential villa with 12 suites, 21 deluxe suites and five junior suites. Every room has a private balcony with a hot tub overlooking the mountains or the ocean, as well as plasma screen TVs and high speed internet access.

The Angsana Spa, operated by Banyan Tree offers a range of wellness and beauty treatments including a signature Vitality package, a soothing Dream therapy and Yin & Yang Balancing for stress relief. Treatments start from GBP69.

There is a large outdoor swimming pool, as well as a children's pool and a lap pool, tennis courts and beach and watersports activities. There are also billiard and mahjong rooms and a children's club.

The hotel has four restaurants, including the Dragon Palace serving Cantonese food in a cosy environment, a seafood restaurant on the terrace overlooking the garden and the Paulaner Brauhaus, which will serve traditional German food and freshly brewed Paulaner beer.

Meeting and banqueting facilities include a grand ballroom for up to 600 people, a smaller ballroom for up to 200 people and five meeting rooms. For business travellers there is an executive floor offering dedicated rooms for female travellers, late check out, private executive lounge with complimentary breakfast, snacks and drinks and complimentary high-speed broadband internet access.

The island has some of the most spectacular scenery, including 'The Remotest Cape of the Earth' where huge boulders rise from the white beach and Xiao Dongtian, 40 km west of Sanya, where you can see some of Hainan's prettiest countryside - translucent water, green hills and marbled rocks with quirky names such as an old celestial man lying on the sea. In Nanshan, also 40km from Sanya, there is a 108 metre tall bronze statue of Buddha on a man made island within a Buddhism cultural park with temples and landscaped gardens. Wuzhizhou Island offers great diving with the best coral reef in Hainan, abundant natural flora and fauna, original rain forests and green hills. It can be reached by boat from Sanya.

Sanya is only 90 minutes flight away from Hong Kong with Dragonair, China Southern and Hong Kong Airlines. Airtours offer direct flights from Manchester or Gatwick via Bahrain from May to October. Flight time is 15 hours.
