Pledges Matching Funds for NEWH, Inc.'s $50,000 School from the Heart Campaign

. October 14, 2008

ATLANTA, August 9, 2005 - To jump start the School from the Heart campaign, which partners the international hospitality organization, NEWH, Inc., and UNICEF in support of a global children's education program, Harvey Nudelman, president of Fabricut/S. Harris, has pledged to match all donations made by Fabricant Contract and S. Harris personnel up to a total of $5,000. Nudelman made the dramatic gesture after attending a NEWH, INC Founder's Circle Roundtable, where he learned about the new NEWH, Inc. / UNICEF initiative and NEWH, Inc.'s commitment to raise $50,000 between July 2005 and July 2006 for UNICEF's School-in-a-Box program under the School from the Heart banner.

Like NEWH, Inc. and UNICEF, Nudelman believes that education is the key to eradicating poverty. "But in these uncertain times, in which man-made and natural disasters are too common an occurrence, children's education can be indefinitely interrupted in the blink of an eyelash due to circumstances beyond their - and in fact anyone's - control," notes Nudelman. "That's why UNICEF's School-in-a-Box program is so crucial, because it delivers educational services to areas where they have been disrupted by whatever cause."

School-in-a-Box was developed in the mid-1990s by UNICEF, in concert with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to provide basic education to the hundreds of thousands of children displaced by the conflict in Rwanda. It is now increasingly utilized in other contexts of back-to-school operations as a rapid response tool. The kit is designed to enable teachers to set up makeshift classrooms almost anywhere, ensuring the continuation of children's education within the first 72 hours after the onset of an emergency.

Nudelman is an active advocate for School from the Heart's mission to support UNICEF's School-in-a-Box program, outlining its importance and the benefits of the NEWH, Inc. / UNICEF partnership, not only his Frabricut/S. Harris colleagues, but to the hospitality industry as a whole. As a NEWH, Inc. corporate sponsor, he is dedicated to reaching School from the Heart's $50,000 goal.

"This program is setup so that everyone is empowered to make a difference. I challenge hospitality industry leaders to join me in this important fund-matching campaign. A little bit from everyone produces better results than a lot from a few. Whether you match funds raised in your own organization or match what has been raised by your local NEWH, Inc. chapter, it is all good. The key is that education is a chance for life. "

NEWH, Inc. is mobilizing its 18 chapters in the US, UK and Canada to fulfill its $50,000 obligation by producing imaginative fundraising concepts at hospitality trade-shows and venues, including September's HD Boutique Exposition and Conference 2005, in Miami Beach.

Individual contributions are welcome and can be made at any time, in any amount, directly to NEWH, Inc. for School from the Heart. However, a $400 gift translates to a complete School-in-a-Box kit and its delivery to even the most remote areas in need. One School-in-a-Box includes a series of basic school supplies, such as exercise books, pencils, erasers and scissors; a wooden teaching clock and plastic cubes for counting; and a set of laminated posters with alphabet, multiplication and number tables for group instruction. The kit comes in a locked aluminum box, the lid of which can double as a blackboard when coated with a special paint that is also included in the kit.

Since 1946 UNICEF has been the world's leader for children, working in 157 countries to help children survive and thrive, from early childhood through adolescence. The world's largest provider of vaccines for poor countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.
