Maine Innkeepers Program to Support Habitat for Humanity

50% Reductions in Room Rates Underway - Trend of Giving Getaways Very Popular with Travelers Who Enjoy Giving Back to the Region where they Vacation

. April 01, 2011

Freeport, ME - March 30, 2011 - Visitors to Maine are currently booking some of Maine's finest Inns and Resorts at deeply discounted rates, taking advantage of 'Hospitality for Habitat', a Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) program that raises funds for local chapters of Habitat for Humanity, announced Greg Dugal, Executive Director of MEIA. Participating Innkeepers all over the state will reduce room rates by 50% between April 25th and May 27th, 2011 for guests willing to write a $35 donation check payable to Habitat for Humanity.

“Every dollar donated goes to help build homes in Maine for deserving families,” said Dugal. “Travelers taking advantage of the Hospitality for Habitat program have been very generous over the years, and seem to enjoy this opportunity to stay in Maine's best resorts, hotels and B&B's at greatly discounted rates.”

This is Hospitality for Habitat's eighth year, and the program has grown each year since its start up. In 2010, despite the challenging economic climate, Innkeepers and their guests raised over $21,000 for Habitat projects. The Association has donated over $51,000 to Habitat for Humanity since the program began in 2004.

“We are grateful to the Innkeepers and their guests who continue to support this program each year, stated Dugal. “It really is a win, win. This fundraiser helps to bring visitors to the state during what is traditionally a slow time for tourism, gives visitors an opportunity to stay at wonderful properties at terrific rates, and supports a great cause.” more
