Hotel Andaluz Wins 2011 Earth-Minded Award
Albuquerque, NM - May 18, 2011 - The Hotel Andaluz announced today that it has won the 2011 Earth-Minded Award in the project category by Hospitality Design Magazine and ASID. The award will be presented May 17th at the 2011 Hospitality Design Exposition and Conference. The historic hotel, which opened as a Hilton in 1939, recently underwent a $30 million renovation. Today, the Hotel is the greenest in the Southwest and is LEED Gold certified, one of only two historic hotels in the country with this certification.
The Hotel Andaluz' award was based on a number of green design and construction features. For instance, the hotel saves energy by using solar heated water, high performance windows, fluorescent and LED lighting and a state of the art energy management system. The hotel also has reduced its water usage over 45%. In addition, the hotel has a comprehensive recycling program that recycles cardboard, paper, plastic, metal and all food waste is composted.
The Hotel Andaluz renovation marks one the first green renovations of a historic hotel in the United States. The project combines upscale boutique hospitality, historic preservation, and the latest in green technology, said Gary Goodman, Hotel Andaluz owner.
