Faces In New Places at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts

August 12, 2011 - Fairmont is pleased to announce several recent management and supervisory-level appointments at its properties worldwide. These include:

Henning A. Fries , who has been appointed regional vice president, U.A.E & general manager, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi. Fries hospitality career has taken him around the globe from Germany and Toronto to Hong Kong and Berlin. Fries recently rejoined Fairmont in the capacity of general manger, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr.

Martin Van Kan , who joins the luxury hotel brand as general manager, Fairmont Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. With over 25 years of hospitality experience, Van Kan brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position and a worldly awareness having worked in a number of places including Seoul, Indonesia, Nepal and China.

Leonard S. Czarnecki , who moves into the role of general manager, The Fairmont Hamilton Princess, Bermuda. Czarnecki joins this Bermuda icon from the Fairmont Pittsburgh, where he was acting general manager.

Adrian Ellis , who arrives at Fairmont as general manager, Fairmont Baku, Azerbaijan. Ellis, who began his career in London, brings a wealth of experience to this position and was most recently the general manager at the Corinthia Hotel Budapest, Hungary.

Farimont Dubai, welcomes Michael Moecking to the role of general manager. Moecking's career has taken him through a series of positions at major hotel companies around the world. He has worked in Buenos Aires, Puerto Rico, Egypt and most recently Berlin, where he held the position of area general manager Germany, Swissotel Berlin.

Matthew Sterne , who takes on the role of general manager, Fairmont Pittsburgh. Sterne started with the company as assistant director, human resources, Fairmont Tremblant then transferred to The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa followed by The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and most recently Fairmont Battery Wharf, where he held the role of general manager.

Fairmont Le Château Montebello, Quebec appoints Genevieve Dumas to the role of general manager. She joined Fairmont in 1996 at Fairmont Tremblant and has since held a series of progressive positions including food & beverage manager, executive housekeeper and sales manager. She rejoins the company from her most recent position as general manager, Marriott Residence Inn & Hilton Homewood Suites, Mont Tremblant.

Norm Mastalir , who has been appointed to the role of managing director, The Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Mastalir started his career over 30 years ago with Fairmont and arrives in Western Canada from his most recent position as managing director, The Fairmont Southampton, Bermuda.

George Terpilowski , who takes on the role of managing director of Fairmont's Bermuda properties - The Fairmont Southampton and The Fairmont Hamilton Princess. Terpilowski brings over three decades of hospitality experience to this position and most recently served as general manager, The Fairmont Washington, D.C.

The Fairmont Olympic Hotel, Seattle appoints Guy Bittner as director of operations. Bittner has held a series of progressive hospitality positions over the past 12 years taking him from Boston to Israel and most recently Hawaii, where he was director of operations, The Fairmont Orchid.

Sarah Dayboll , who has been appointed director, environmental affairs, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. Dayboll has been instrumental in progressing Fairmont's green agenda and most recently oversaw the company's commitment to reduce its carbon emissions under the World Wildlife Fund's Climate Savers Program. In her expanded role, she will continue to seek out new ways in which to proactively green Fairmont's operations.

Denis Lartigue , who joins the kitchens of Shanghai's Fairmont Peace Hotel as executive chef. Lartigue has held several senior culinary positions over the course of his career and has honed his skill in some of the world's top hotel kitchens. Most recently, he was executive chef, the Conrad International, Bangkok.

Tamara Quinn , who takes on the role of director, food & beverage, Fairmont Zimbali Resort & Fairmont Zimbali Lodge, South Africa. Quinn brings over 10 years of hospitality experience to this position, beginning her career in Whistler, British Columbia as a restaurant & lounge supervisor at a local resort and spa.

Reto Borer , who takes on the role of director, food & beverage, Fairmont Beijing. Borer brings extensive culinary expertise to his new role having worked in kitchens from Cairo to Australia. He joined Fairmont Beijing in 2010 as executive chef and he will continue to oversee the culinary department in his new role.
