Benchmark Fills a New Position - President, Business Development and Finance
Houston, Texas - August 18, 2011 - Benchmark Hospitality International has named Alex Cabañas president, business development and finance, for the leading U.S.-based hospitality management company. Burt Cabañas, Benchmark Hospitality's founder, chairman & CEO, made the announcement.
“It is a pleasure to announce the appointment of Alex to the role of president in charge of development and finance," said Mr. Cabañas. “As we continue to grow, we have joined these two critical areas under Alex to ensure our commitments to the owners of properties we manage remain in full focus, from contract negotiations through the life of the project with Benchmark.
Alex Cabañas was previously chief development officer for Benchmark Hospitality International. During his tenure, Benchmark added 13 properties to its management portfolio and expanded into South America. The company also acquired MTM Luxury Lodging, which led to the launch of the hospitality industry's newest luxury brand, Personal Luxury Resorts & HotelsSM.
In previous positions with Benchmark Hospitality, Mr. Cabañas successfully expanded access to new investment capital markets important to the company's growth. He also oversaw the finalization of Benchmark's partnership agreement for Benchmark Hospitality International Japan (BHIJ).
Prior to joining Benchmark in 2006, Cabañas was part of the global team with Boston Consulting Group, based in their Dallas office for six years.
Alex Cabañas received his Master in Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School. He holds a Bachelor in Business Administration degree and a Master of Science in Finance degree from Texas A&M University. Mr. Cabañas resides in The Woodlands with his family.
