Leading Hotels of the World Becomes Title Sponsor of Cornell Hospitality Research Summit

. February 22, 2012

Ithaca, NY - February 21, 2012 - The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd. will be the title sponsor of the second Cornell Hospitality Research Summit (CHRS), which is scheduled for October 8 and 9, 2012, at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration. Developed by the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research (CHR), the conference will bring industry leaders and academic researchers together to share research-based information designed to advance the industry's practice. In conjunction with the CHR's 20th anniversary observance, the theme of this year's summit is "Service Excellence and Performance Growth in the Global Hospitality Industry: Strategies and Approaches for Navigating Forward."

"I am delighted to announce The Leading Hotels of the World as the CHRS title sponsor," said Professor Rohit Verma, CHR executive director. "Given their global status, Leading Hotels and Ted Teng, its president and CEO, are industry leaders who demonstrate the key aspect of the CHRS, which is turning information into best practices and service excellence. We are delighted that Ted has agreed to help us in developing a superior program for the CHRS participants." Verma added that the call for papers and presentations is still open (until March 2), for industry practitioners and academics who have research-based information to improve industry practice.

A graduate of the School of Hotel Administration, Teng has long supported the school's connections with the hospitality industry and is a member of the dean's advisory council at the School of Hotel Administration. "I attended the first CHRS, and was impressed at both the quality of information and the level of participation," said Teng. "The research presented at this conference is just what the industry needs. This is fact-based knowledge that can improve the industry's practices all along the line. The only frustration is that it is impossible to attend all the presentations."

The 2010 CHRS featured 45 individual breakout sessions and four keynote speeches. The CHRS breakout sessions are summarized in five proceedings documents, covering presentations on industry analysis, social media, electronic distribution, sustainability, and marketing issues, including internet analytics, brand management, and customer loyalty. All these are available at no charge on the CHR website, as are all of CHR's research studies (chr.cornell.edu). The 2012 CHRS will build and expand on those topics, among others.

Several other firms are sponsoring the CHRS as well, and more sponsorships are available. Current sponsors are: Deloitte, HVS, IDeaS (a SAS company), J.D. Power and Associates, LRP Publications, PKF Hospitality Research, Proskauer, SAS, Taj Hotels, Resorts, and Palaces, and Wyndham Hotel Group. Companies interested in sponsoring this world-class conference should contact CHR Associate Director Jennifer Macera ([email protected]).
