May 25, 2012 - The all-inclusive resort, one of three Beaches on Jamaica, has been in the Sandals portfolio for 12 years. However, Sandals will terminate its contract with owner Poincianna Resorts on August 31st 2012.

“Despite the successes of Sandy Bay, the resort no longer fits the long-term strategy and vision of our organization, explained a statement from Sandals. “We will look to pursue other exciting opportunities elsewhere.”

Sandals' Beaches brand is aimed at families only, to complement the couples only offering of the main portfolio. The resort will close for the month of September, with Poincianna planning to assume hotel operations when the resort reopens.

Sandals is considered the World's Leading All-inclusive Company by the World Travel Awards.
