California Lodging Industry Association Partners With Spectrum Settlement Recovery
CLIA Members Strengthen their Position in Visa and MasterCard Class Action Settlement
SACRAMENTO, CA, August 12, 2005. CLIA (California Lodging Industry Association) announced today its partnership with Spectrum Settlement Recovery, LLC, to provide settlement claim services for their members and the California lodging industry.
Under a major class action settlement involving Visa and MasterCard, businesses are entitled to claim their share of a $3.05 billion settlement. The money is owed to businesses for specific violations of antitrust laws during an eleven-year period that involved inconsistent merchant fees for debit and credit cards. The nearly 1,000 CLIA member lodging properties, which range in size from small, independent bed & breakfasts to large super-chain hotels and motels, encourage and accept Visa and MasterCard payments as their primary transaction for customers.
"As California ranks as the top destination for travelers within the United States, our California lodging businesses have tens of billions of dollars, accumulatively, that have been charged through VISA and MasterCard-in room charges alone-during the eleven-year period specified in the lawsuit," says Rick Lawrance, CLIA President and CEO. "CLIA is pleased to partner with Spectrum Settlement Recovery and refer our members to these significant resources."
CLIA members who sign on with the Spectrum team will have their claim processed with no up-front costs. Spectrum Settlement Recovery advocates on their behalf, filing the paper work, and handling the research and internal audits to secure each company's recovery.
"Hotel, motel, and lodging property owners work very hard, and typically don't have much extra time or staff to be involved with complex claims," says Howard Yellen, Founder and CEO of Spectrum Settlement Recovery. "We educated CLIA on the benefits of this significant settlement so that their members would be able to recover the fees they were once overcharged by VISA and MasterCard,"
Our members deserve to recoup the money owed to them through this class action settlement," says Lawrance, "It's a win-win situation for our members!"
