Jamaica Confirms Second JAMEX
MARCH 16, 2007. The Jamaica Tourist Board announced that it will run a repeat of the successful UK meetings and incentive planning programme known as JAMEX during the summer this year.
The programme has been running in the US for over ten years and this will be the second time it has targeted UK buyers. The 2007 programme will run from 1-4 June and will be hosted at Half Moon in Montego Bay. On the first day, meeting planners will enjoy a destination update at the networking breakfast, followed by three full days of hotel site inspections. During their stay delegates will be given the chance to take the pace down a notch with a gentle rafting excursion on the Lethe River which is close to the Montego Bay area.
Site inspections include:
---| Iberostar Rose Hall - a new property run by the Spanish hotel and resorts chain due to open in May this year. This is Iberostar's first Jamaican property.
---| Gran Bahia Principe - also a new Spanish brand for the island.
---| Sandals Dunn's River
---| Sunset Jamaica Grande
---| Ritz Carlton Rose Hall Resort and Country Club - for dinner and cocktails on the first night
Jamaica has 170,000 sq.ft of meeting space and 24,000 rooms throughout the island with key areas being Montego Bay, Kingston, Ocho Rios and the South Coast.
With a new convention centre planned in Montego Bay, improved infrastructure and airport expansion, and plans to add an additional 10,000 rooms by 2010, the island is fast becoming number one in the Caribbean for MICE.
The island offers a wide range of post-meeting activities and incentive options with championship golf courses, soft adventure, water activities and Jamaica's rich cultural heritage.
Elizabeth Fox, Jamaica Tourist Board Regional Director UK/ N.Europe comments: 'We are delighted to offer the UK MICE industry the chance to attend JAMEX this year and experience all that the island can offer this important segment. The best way to educate buyers on the wealth of the MICE product on offer in Jamaica is to let them experience it first hand. Jamaica's MICE product is fast evolving and it's imperative we invite planners and buyers here on a regular basis to update them on new facilities and to remind them there's no where better in the world to combine business with pleasure.'
The trip includes return flights on Air Jamaica, accommodation, food and drink, ground transportation and attractions and excursions. Planners with groups yielding a minimum of 50 rooms a night and who have a remit to book long haul meetings can qualify for a space by logging onto http://www.visitjamaica.com/JamEx/index.htm.
