The annual awards, which focus on excellence in hospitality operations, bestowed accolades in a variety of categories. The luxury division, which includes La Quinta Resort & Club, encompasses 29 worldwide Waldorf Astoria properties. Competitors included the award-winning Arizona Biltmore, Waldorf Astoria New York and Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah. Criteria for Luxury Resort of the Year was based on La Quinta's business acumen, guest satisfaction and service while the accolades for Best Food & Beverage/Luxury Division was driven by the resort's signature restaurant - Morgan's in the desert - under the helm of triple James Beard award recipient Chef Jimmy Schmidt and Chef du Cuisine Brian Recor.

Cherrett, who joined La Quinta Resort in 2013, received the most coveted award - General Manager of the Year - based on his forward management style and service culture. Guest satisfaction and financial stability are paramount to this award. The reach and influence of social media is staggering. Nearly 3 billion people use social media daily, posting a range of messages, selfies, images, and everything in-between. According to HubSpot, almost 4 million posts are uploaded to the major social networks every single minute! That's an astounding amount of content and it is crucial for hotels to skillfully use social media in order to effectively compete.
