The Hall Family Foundation Announces the Death of Stephen S.J. Hall, a Hospitality Industry Executive, Ordained Minister, Philanthropist, Author, and Ethicists
Sarasota, FL. - August 27, 2015 - The Hall Family Foundation announced today that Stephen S.J. Hall, its chairman and founder, died suddenly on July 30, 2015 of natural causes. He died at home, peacefully, in the arms of his wife of 58 years.
“My father served the global hospitality for the majority of his career in a variety of capacities including property development, education, philanthropy, and the author of a number of books on ethics and quality in the service industries,” said Larry Hall, his son and board member of the family's foundation. “Following a 13-year career at The Sheraton Corporation where he served as Sheraton's youngest Vice President of Engineering during which he managed the construction of the Sheraton Waikiki, my father became the Vice President of Administration at Harvard University,” said Hall.
Stephen Hall “After a very successful career at Harvard, my father founded the International Institute for Quality and Ethics in Service and Tourism along with several small businesses. He authored four books on Quality Assurance and Ethics in the hospitality industry and lectured frequently at Cornell and ESSEC. He graduated from Cornell University in 1956, earned his MBA from Michigan State in 1966, and his Masters of Divinity from Harvard University in 1988,” added Hall.
“For those of us in the hospitality industry, we will remember my father for the innovations he pioneered at Sheraton, his commitment to developing the future leaders of our industry, and his relentless pursuit of educating our industry on the connections between quality, ethics, and excellence in the industry,” added Hall.
