Crowne Plaza Aire Takes Off in Bloomington, Minnesota

New Ownership & New Vision Transform a Popular Hotel

. December 16, 2015

Bloomington, MN - December 16, 2015 - By spring 2016, the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Suites, Bloomington will be smartly transformed into the new Crowne Plaza Aire, thanks to the new ownership and vision of the Kaeding Management Group, LLC. Under the Bloomington-based Kaeding, which has nearly four decades of experience in development and management of high-quality commercial and residential real estate, the 34 year old Crowne Plaza will be renovated with an aviation theme. This is in keeping with the property's longstanding relationship with the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport and the Hubert Humphrey Charter Terminal, which are just minutes away.

“Sixty years ago, they built MSP Airport on what was a race track,” explains Carl Kaeding, company owner and lead development manager of Kaeding Management Group, LLC. “Now it's the 12th busiest airport in the country. It's come along far and fast, and the aviation metaphor seems appropriate for Minneapolis.”
While the origins of the airport date back to the early days of aviation of 1921, the Crowne Plaza Aire has been a part of the airport's life for nearly half that time and continues to serve travelers and welcome airline crews as part of its deeply-rooted connection with Minnesota air transportation. No other airport hotel is so closely linked with the history of Minneapolis aviation and so well-suited to offer hospitality and convenience to Minneapolis area guests.

The Crown Plaza Aire offers one of the finest locations in greater Minneapolis. The hotel offers complimentary 24 hour shuttle service to both airline terminals. The fabled Mall of America is just one mile away and the Light Rail station is across the street, making it a breeze to get to downtown Minneapolis, TCF Stadium and Target Field.

“We're planning to make the design focus of the hotel about the history of aviation, floor by floor,” Kaeding says. “In many ways, we will be treating it as a gallery. We will have photographs and eight or nine large aviation displays, from the beginning of aviation all the way to the future, to giant planes and space travel. It will be a unique art installation that will invite the guests to roam and in the lobby, there will be a large aviation-themed sculpture."

As part of the Crowne Plaza Aire's transformation, the public areas of the hotel will be refurbished and the hotel's 18,000 square feet of meeting space will also be refreshed. The vintage mid-century aspects of the hotel will remain while 21st century technology, design and comforts will enhance the guest experience. The Crowne Plaza Aire will feature 430 guest rooms and suites, with many offering runway views of the bustling MSP airport, one of America's busiest international aviation hubs. Some rooms have views to the skyline of downtown Minneapolis, just 13 miles away. All rooms have complimentary in-room Wi-Fi and have recently been improved with the Crowne Plaza Sleep Advantage Program, which includes upgraded bedding, a “This Works” aromatherapy kit and a “Dedicated Quiet Zone” policy from Sunday to Thursday to ensure that staff noise is kept to a minimum in the hotel's hallways. A brand new aviation-themed luxury penthouse suite is already in the works.

A wood burning oven is being built as the focal point of the new restaurant, which will have a menu featuring pizzas and other wood-fired fare, a broad selection of salads and a reliance on locally sourced fresh ingredients. The hotel has a 1,500 square foot fitness center that will be upgraded with state-of-the-art equipment by Precor, and there is an indoor salt water Junior Olympic swimming pool.

The promise of Crowne Plaza Aire is the best of everything: a design-forward hotel that will offer an enhanced guest experience and welcoming sense of place, while providing the quality and benefits of the global Crowne Plaza and IHG brands.
