CC Africa Appoints Sustainability Director

. October 14, 2008

JANUARY 29, 2008. Claire Howse is welcomed to Conservation Corporation of Africa's (CCA) board as the new Group Sustainability Director to considerably build and raise the profile of the company's corporate social responsibility and sustainable tourism initiatives.

Conservation Corporation Africa (CC Africa) is delighted to announce the appointment of Claire Howse as Group Sustainability Director. This new position has been created to build the company's responsible and sustainable tourism profile in order to continue to build upon and effectively meet their conservation goals.

This is a crucial development for the company's infrastructure and will ensure the continued promotion and upholding of its key brand values: "Care of the Land, Care of the Wildlife, Care of the People". While all employees at CC Africa incorporate this concept into their various roles, this new position will enable one person to dedicate specific attention at an executive level to sustainability efforts. "This concentration will help increase and integrate our thinking around the positive effects that CC Africa can have on the surrounding communities, land and native wildlife," says Nicky Fitzgerald, CC Africa's Marketing Director.

Claire joins an already well-established sustainability team in CC Africa, consisting of Les Carlisle, Group Environmental Manager, and the company's Conservation Committee - a team of experienced environmentalists and field management staff who focus on the implementation of projects relating to the sustainability strategy of the company.

The Committee debates and determines policies, identifies environmental projects within the field teams and makes decisions on community engagement projects. CC Africa's Green Teams across Africa and India are a group of self-elected individuals from all disciplines in the lodges, responsible for driving measurement of resource consumption.

"Claire will be key in bringing together the knowledge and expertise that already exists within CC Africa to help reinforce the mutually beneficial commitments in the areas of environment and natural resources, guest experience, business strategy and brand building", added Nicky Fitzgerald.
