Urgo Hotels Celebrates Opening of Hilton Brooklyn New York with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
New York, N.Y. December 8, 2016 — Hilton Brooklyn New York officially opened its doors on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by the hotel's owners, Mick Walsdorf and Ken Copeland (left) of Flank Architecture + Development; Don Urgo Sr. (center-right), president of Urgo Hotels & Resorts, the hotel's management company; and General Manager Joe Rosanio (right).
The new hotel stands on a historic site that had been a 1,200-foot, two-block-long rope factory owned by Peter Schermerhorn in the 19th century. The factory, also known as a ropewalk, was the largest in the United States and produced rope for New York's shipbuilding industry until it succumbed to a major fire in 1841.
References to the site's history can be seen throughout the hotel's stylish interiors - from images of the ropewalk in the custom-designed, guestroom wallpaper to rope-patterned carpeting in the corridors.
The first full-service hotel of its caliber in the area, the 196-room hotel occupies the first six floors of a 19-story commercial, retail and condominium development in Boerum Hill. In addition to its spacious guest rooms and suites, the hotel features Black Walnut, a full restaurant and bar by prolific Brooklyn chef Rob Newton; flexible function space for meetings and events; and 24-hour services and facilities, including a fitness center, concierge service, grab-and-go pantry and business center.
