HSMAI's HDOSM-SIG Launches On-line Community for Marketing Professionals

. October 14, 2008

JANUARY 8, 2008. The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Hotel Director of Sales and Marketing Special Interest Group (HDOSM-SIG) has launched a new members-only online community for hotel sales and marketing professionals with a comprehensive DOSM Toolbox as its centerpiece.

An integral part of this online portal, the DOSM Toolbox is a one-stop virtual warehouse of best practices, templates, and other resources for marketing planning, training, advertising, public relations, brand management, resource allocation, employee management, annual budgeting, and more.

HSMAI members have complimentary access to this online community, as well as to the DOSM Toolbox and all its components. Community members are able to access presentations from the 2007 Hotel Sales Strategy Conference, participate in discussions with other members, receive updates about upcoming programs of interest, and access an array of other resources.

'The HDOSM-SIG's Advisory Board - comprised of sales and marketing leaders from Ritz-Carlton, Marriott, Hilton, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Turnberry Associates, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, Crestline Hotels and Resorts, and Noble Investment Group - has assembled an impressive repository of sales tools and resources for our new toolbox, and generously shared their best practices to benefit all of our HDOSM special interest group members,' said Mark D. Thompson, HDOSM-SIG Advisory Board Chair and Assistant Executive Director/Marketing, Irving Texas Convention and Visitors Bureau. 'It is an exciting project that will continue to be enhanced and expanded through our HSMAI member feedback,' Thompson added.

The HDOSM-SIG provides information, leadership development, and a variety of other resources specifically relevant to hotel directors of sales and marketing, to sales staff who aspire to become directors of sales and marketing, and to other industry professionals interested in developments within hotel sales.

Ongoing initiatives include the Hotel Sales Strategy Conference, the Business Acumen for Business Results hotel management simulation program, the CHSC certification (Certified in Hospitality Sales Competencies), webinars targeted to this audience, a comprehensive e-newsletters filled with DOSM resources, and chapter programs in cities throughout the US. For more information, visit www.hdosm.org.

The HDOSM-SIG was created to advance the hotel sales and marketing discipline through education, participation, resources and guidance, enabling leaders to optimize sales and marketing within their own organizations.

HSMAI has expanded its SIGs into five industry segments. In addition to the Hotel Directors of Sales and marketing segment, the categories to-date include:

o Internet Marketing

o Revenue Management

o Resort Marketing

o Sales and Marketing Faculty

Each SIG is led by an Advisory Board comprised of industry leaders who are responsible for initiating projects and programming to serve the specific needs of these unique constituencies.

There is no cost for HSMAI members to join a SIG at this time. HSMAI will continue to create Special Interest Groups and build services, information and networking opportunities for HSMAI members and the industry at-large as interest and opportunity merits.
