"These beautiful archaeological villas compliment our existing portfolio of scenic resort properties in Mexico," said Carlos del Pino, managing director of Islander Collection. "We are excited to enhance these villas with our own signature sophisticated sense of style and comfort during the coming year"
In line with Islander Collection's long term plans to build an extensive portfolio of unique properties in exotic locales throughout Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America, the acquisition of the archaeological villas is the company's first step toward achieving their goal to offer travelers distinct and exceptional vacation experiences.
Janyck Daudet, C.E.O. Club Med South America adds, "Club Med continues with its core mission - to be the best all-inclusive vacation for upscale families. We worked closely with Fonatur (Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo) in Mexico to transfer these locations to a local operator who will preserve, protect and cherish these locations as Club Med has for over 20 years."
Since founding the company in October 2006, Islander Collection has also acquired Cozumel's largest resort complex, introduced the island's first Wyndham-branded property, and developed Cozumel's first adults-only hotel.
After taking over the former Reef Club Cozumel, Islander Collection aligned themselves with the internationally recognized Wyndham Hotel Group and unveiled the newly branded Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa in August 2007. Undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade, the property was successfully transformed into the largest and most complete resort in Cozumel, offering first-rate accommodations, superior service and a wide range of amenities to create the perfect all-inclusive experience.
Islander Collection will also be introducing the brand new Aura Cozumel, a Wyndham Grand Bay property and member of the Preferred Boutique group, a prestigious collection of worldwide luxury boutique hotels. Scheduled to open January 2008, the Aura Cozumel will offer guests a unique all-inclusive boutique setting, providing endless luxury with stylish and lavish accommodations as well as superior amenities and services.
