China's Star-rated Hotels Top 13,900
AUGUST 1, 2007. China has 13,900 registered high-class hotels to cater to the needs of its booming tourism sector.
According to the Xinhua news wire, the 1,915 approved since last year include 68 five-star, 351 four-star, 875 three-star, 588 two-star and 33 one-star hotels.
In order to increase the transparency of hotel assessment, the National Tourism Administration has announced the information on the Internet, according to Man Hongwei, head of quality control department under the administration.
He noted that the administration re-examined 7,856 high-class hotels last year, penalized 978 (or 12.4 percent) and degraded 478 ones to guarantee the service quality.
