NativeEnergy to Discuss Carbon Offsets and Responsible Travel
Fifth Annual New York Times Travel Show Feb. 29 - March 2
FEBRUARY 14, 2008. NativeEnergy will host a panel and have a booth at the upcoming New York Times Travel Show held Feb. 29 - Mar. 2, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Interested attendees will be able to learn more about how to offset their carbon footprint with NativeEnergy. The travel show is one of the largest in the U.S. with more than 500 exhibitors, attracting more than 30,000 participants.
NativeEnergy uses carbon offset donations to help build wind energy projects on Native American and Native Alaskan land, and assist family farmer-owned renewable energy projects such as solar arrays and methane conversion. These projects replace electricity usually derived from fossil fuels with clean energy and reduce other greenhouse gas emissions that impact global warming.
Megan Epler Wood, partner with NativeEnergy said, "There is growing international consensus that the travel industry should respond to the climate crisis. Tourism destinations are already being deeply affected by climate change worldwide, and all tourism professionals need to be involved in responding."
A panel of experts will speak on how the industry can address the carbon crisis during a special trade and media program on Friday, Feb. 29. NativeEnergy partner Richard G. Edwards will be one of the invited speakers.
"There are many ways for the travel industry to respond to the climate crisis," said Mr. Edwards. "We can all reduce our energy use, improve energy efficiency, support renewable energy projects, particularly those relevant to tourism and work to offset the remaining carbon impacts."
Attendees at the show can also learn how to offset the effect of their travel to the show with a simple CO2 emissions calculator provided by NativeEnergy. For details please see http://www.nativeenergy.com/pages/new_york_times_travel_show/311.php or visit NativeEnergy at Booth #1112.
NativeEnergy is currently providing offset support to, among others, Atlas Travel International, the upcoming Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) conference in March and the 107 year-old Sierra Club Outings program.
