NYIT Culinary Arts Center Receives $10,000 Scholarship Donation from LIH&LA
OLD WESTBURY, NY, June 13, 2007. New York Institute of Technology's (NYIT) Culinary Arts Center has received a $10,000 scholarship donation from the Long Island Hotel & Lodging Association (LIH&LA) to support culinary arts and hospitality management students living and working in Long Island's lodging, food, and beverage industries.
Mike Johnston, LIH&LA president and general manager of the Long Island Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, presented the scholarship check to NYIT Culinary Arts Center Director and Executive Chef Gunter Grossmann, NYIT Assistant Professor James Dunne, and NYIT culinary arts students at NYIT's Epicurean Room restaurant in Central Islip, N.Y. John C. Tsunis, hotelier, and chairman and CEO of Long Island Hotels, also presented a check on behalf of his organization in the amount of $1,000.
The contribution represents 50 percent of the proceeds from LIH&LA's 2006 summer golf outing. LIH&LA's 2007 golf outing is scheduled for August 14 at Middle Bay Country Club in Oceanside, N.Y. At the event, NYIT hospitality students will greet guests and culinary arts students will present cooking demonstrations.
