Swissair Defendants Cleared
JUNE 7, 2007. The 19 defendants accused of crimes connected to the collapse of Swissair have been cleared.
The biggest corporate trial in Switzerland looked into the events which lead up to Swissair's bankruptcy in October 2001.Charges included damaging creditors, mismanagement, making false business statements and forging documents. The defendants included chief executive Mario Corti, the only one who was facing a prison sentence.
Swiss International emerged from the ashes of Swissair in 2002, and was subsequently bought by Lufthansa in 2005.
