Rocco Forte's Hotel Ludwig, Munich
LONDON, UK, September 22, 2005. Rocco Forte Hotels is delighted to announce that its Munich property, which is due to open in spring 2007, will be called Hotel Ludwig. Hotel Ludwig is one of three properties that Rocco Forte Hotels is currently developing in Germany, making it the country's market leader with regard to luxury hotels. The other two are Villa Kennedy in Frankfurt (opening January 2006) and Hotel de Rome in Berlin (opening July 2006).
Located in the heart of the Bavarian city of Munich, in the area known as Lenbach G"arten (which lies on the edge of the Botanical Gardens), guests of Hotel Ludwig will be guaranteed a peaceful stay with tranquil views. Ideal for business and leisure travellers, the hotel is within walking distance of the commercial district, popular shopping areas and entertainment facilities. It is also well located for transport links, being close to the city's main train station, The Hauptbahnhof, with the Franz Josef Strauss airport lying just 28 km to the northeast of Munich.
Hotel Ludwig has been named after a colourful former monarch, King Ludwig II, who ruled Bavaria in the 19th century. Something of a legend, he was a great statesman who was popular with his people. Eccentric and theatrical by nature, King Ludwig built three extravagant fairytale castles that have since inspired the likes of Walt Disney, often staged plays and operas at his palaces, and was a great supporter of Wagner.
A stylish new-build property, Hotel Ludwig is set to significantly raise the standard of visitor accommodation in Munich. The design has been overseen by Rocco Forte Hotels' Director of Design, Olga Polizzi, and - as with all the other properties in the collection - it will have its own personality that reflects its location. For example, there will be Bavarian limestone in the bathrooms and original paintings by Munich's celebrated 19th century artist Franz von Lenbach in the bedrooms. Although von Lenbach painted a variety of subjects, he is most remembered as a portrait artist of contemporary celebrities.
