Chicago Architecture Foundation Explores Chicago's History and Future
New Tours Added to CAF Schedule
CHICAGO, IL, March 20, 2008. Known for their quality architecture tours, the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) is adding four new tours this spring and expanding the schedule for others. Dates and times vary by tour. Check www.architecture.org for an up-to-date schedule.
Preserving Chicago's Loop: Making History walking tour - selected Fridays and Saturdays. Visitors will learn how the decisions that are made about preserving historic buildings help create the city of the future. This tour offers a fresh look at the ever-changing built environment and explores issues in conjunction with Do We Dare Squander Chicago's Great Architectural Heritage? a new, free exhibition, open through May 9 at CAF, 224 S. Michigan Avenue.
Evanston Downtown walking tour - selected Wednesdays and Saturdays. Evanston has main-street charm but is becoming a skyscraper city, a battleground between developers and preservationists. This tour explores the old and new in this thriving retail, restaurant, office and residential center.
Historic Courthouse District of River North walking tour - selected Saturdays and Sundays. This River North tour focuses on the developments surrounding the old courthouse building at Hubbard and Dearborn.
Temples of Culture walking tour - selected Tuesdays. This lunchtime tour explores the major cultural institutions along Michigan Avenue, including the Auditorium, Symphony Center, Art Institute and the Fine Arts Building.
Architecture River Cruise - expanded schedule in May. More daily departures have been added to the Architecture River Cruise aboard Chicago's First Lady Cruises. Reservations begin April 1.
