Galileo Adds European Rail Content
THE INTERNET, September 28, 2005. Galileo International and AccesRail have announced an agreement that allows Galileo agents in the US and Canada to book tickets on over a dozen additional European railways, including the popular airport express trains of London to and from Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted.
"The agreement with AccesRail combines enhanced European rail content with the user-friendly, seamless functionality that Galileo agents have come to expect," said Eileen Kennedy, vice president, marketing, the Americas, Galileo. "Agents are better equipped to provide more comprehensive travel options to their clients travelling overseas." AccesRail accounting, payment settlement, and back office functions eliminate excess paperwork and enable the integration of rail and air in the same PNR. In addition, selling AccessRail requires no special training for agents as fare display, availability and ticketing for international rail travel is handled using standard air commands.
"Galileo agents will now have AccesRail's portfolio on their airline primary screen display allowing them to book a client right through to their final destination - and earn a 10% commission in the process," said Denis Grenier, vice president, business development for ACP Rail International. "Rail connections such as Heathrow Express and Gatwick Express in the UK and the hourly connection between Amsterdam Schiphol and Brussels give agents a real opportunity to help the customer reach the heart of the city in a convenient and comfortable way."
The ability to book extensive European rail content positions Galileo-connected agents as full service travel consultants when arranging European travel for their customers. Galileo agents can book a number of European railways including Norwegian, Swedish and Dutch railways. All the main services of Norway and Sweden are available including connections to and from the main airports in Oslo and Stockholm. In the Netherlands and Belgium, agents have access to the hourly service between Amsterdam Schiphol airport and Brussels airport, for connecting travellers flying to either city.
